On the Borders of Infinity

Now in my seventy second year

I look upon the world of men,

Absent malice, absent fear

And know that I shall come again

To work eternal problems out.

Yet time is given still to grow

And al the inner demons rout,

Time for wonder, time to know

The secret of our birth in time,

The knot of inconscience to untie

Aware of the momentous climb

And why life suffers and must die,

Groping blindly towards a light

We know is there but cannot see,

Recalling visions of delight

On the borders of infinity.
